Capitola (Shell) Anderson, of Lovington went home on June 18, 2016 at the age of 92. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 25, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Pastors Harry Pittam and Matt Thackerson, officiating. Interment will follow in Lovington Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 am-8:00 pm with the family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 pm at Stevens Funeral Home.
Shell was born on January 13, 1924 in Haileyville, OK to Pearl and Capitola Maddux Smallwood, who died during childbirth on January 13, 1924. On December 26, 1925, Pearl Smallwood married John Edith Maddux. To this union were born three children, Juanita Ann, who died at the age of 2 months, John R Smallwood and Joseph M Smallwood. Shell married J.B. Anderson on October 28, 1942 and they celebrated nearly 60 years of wonderful marriage before his death in 2002. They lived in Lea County since 1946. She was employed at Phillips Petroleum for 32 years. Shell was a member of First Baptist Church and the Chaparral Grandmothers Club.
Survivors include her children, Ronald Joe Anderson, Markay Anderson; brother, Joseph M. Smallwood; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Stephen Lee Anderson and brother, John Roy Smallwood and grandson, Joseph Anderson.
