David M. Sherman passed away on October 11, 2018 after long fought battle with leukemia. He was 60 years old. He was born in Decatur, TX on April 14, 1958 to Clyde Myerl Sherman and Earlene Wilson. In 1977, he married the love of his life, Sabrina, and they spent the next 41 years together raising a family. They raised two children, whom were taught to work hard, play hard, and cherish family.He was a dedicated and hardworking man who always but his family first. Always actively involved with his community and his neighborhood, he played basketball until his knees no longer could take it. It was at this time David took up golf and grew to love the sport he never thought he would play. One of his great joys in life was to go to the lake with his family. Whether it was fishing, tubing, or just spending time with family on the water. The time with his children and grandchildren was special to him, and to those he spent it with. His sense of humor, dedication, and loving presence will be deeply missed.
David worked in the oilfield on drilling rigs and had a unique collection of photographs of all the rigs he worked on. He loved to tell a good oilfield story. In 2006, he became the proud owner of Pro-Kem Inc. an Oilfield Production Company in Lovington.
He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife, Sabrina Sherman. His son Dave Sherman. His daughter Sheila Lambert and her husband John. Seven grandchildren: Alexis Powell, River Sherman and his mother Chelsey Smith of Lubbock Texas, Denae Gutierrez-Willis, Ollie Sherman, Oliver Sherman, Jaxon Lambert and Louie Cole. One great-grandson Karter Sherman of Lubbock, Texas. His sister Thresa Swaim and husband Terry of Albuquerque, NM and his brother Tony Sherman and his wife Lynn of Decatur, Texas. David also leaves behind numerous family members and friends whom he dearly loved. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Earlene Wilson, Myerl and Louise Sherman, and one brother William "Billy" Sherman.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with a visitation to be held Monday from 5-7 pm at Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Lovington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to bethematch.org as they advocate for patients with blood cancers.
