Tomasa Corine Medina Perales
Tomasa entered in to heaven on April 24, 2018. She was born to Juana Medina and Ujenio Benavides on March 24, 1936 in Artesia NM. As a young girl, she attended Catholic School in Carlsbad, NM and took her first Communion at age 10, shortly before her mother’s death. She was raised by her Aunt Susie and cousins. Jesse Navarette was a father figure to her. She had one brother, who died as an infant when she was very young. When Tomasa began working, she worked in the cotton fields of New Mexico and Texas. There, she met her best friend, Jose R. Perales. They went their separate ways for a while, coming back together to raise a family after getting married in 1975. Tomasa was loved by all her children and those surviving her are Andrew Valencia and Lolly of Hobbs, NM, James Medina and Stephanie of Humble, TX, Linda Perales of Hobbs, NM, Joey Perales of Lovington, NM. Her children to precede her in death were David Saucedo and Doreen of New York, Orlando Perales and Lorena Perales.
She will be missed dearly also by her 22 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She kept albums full of pictures of everyone and remembered her family, even as her health and memory began to fail. She delighted in cooking large meals for friends and family and was famous for her delicious homemade tortillas. She enjoyed eating beans and jalapenos, banana splits (with hard ice cream and pecans) and Hersey bars. She liked to work large print word search puzzles, watching Lifetime movies and the Young and the Restless. Tomasa’s favorite past time was spending time with family; listening and telling stories that made her laugh. She loved flowers and enjoyed going fishing as a younger woman.
She will be remembered for her ability to sniff out dishonesty a mile away, direct personality, and sensitivity and compassion when it came to matters of the heart. She could be counted on to stand by your side and others would not. She gave with generosity and without regret. Our beloved “Tomato’s” signature laughter and beautiful smile will be missed by all her friends and family. There is a hole in our lives where she was that cannot be filled.
My condolences to all the family our thoughts and prayers

GOD and You MOM are my second to NONE. I honor you for giving me life. My first kiss, my first love! When i took my first breath, my first step and throughout my ongoing battles you were always there. All you ever asked for in return was a little bit of my time. I can't describe our connection , well maybe to Bozena, Pat and Davan I can. You were always there, not only in flesh but in the Sixth Sense as well. I'm gonna miss seeing through your eyes and hearing your thoughts. Will you let God know that I understand and Thank You for taking care of all of you. I have only my heart to offer each of you.
Everyone here is reshuffling their role in the family. One day at a time, that little time you asked from us, is and will continue to give me depth and wisdom with the infinite things to know in this short life we live. You are the stars glazing in the night, the moon that lights up the night, the wind that touches my face, the dirt and water that brush across my bare feet, the beauty that makes me smile and the sun that gives life.
