Ruby Lee Walker passed away April 4th, 2019 in Lubbock Texas. She was born to the late Johnnie and Adell Martin, November 9th, 1929 in Tahoka, Texas. She graduated from Tahoka High School. Ruby married the late Matt Walker on April 22nd, 1957 in Lovington, New Mexico. They moved to Tatum, New Mexico in 1958. She lived there until her death. Ruby is survived by 6 children, Lena Williams of Lubbock, TX, Mary Hillard of San Antonio, TX, James Jackson of Lubbock, TX, Charles Walker (TJ) of Bosque Farms, NM, and April McKee (Larry) of Tatum, NM. She is also survived by a brother, John L. Martin (Mercie) of Brownfield, Tx. A host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Matt Walker; two sons, George Jackson and Arthur Walker; parents, Johnnie and Adell Martin; four sisters, Adell, Mattie Lou Ervin, Johnnie Mae Hatchet and Erma Coleman; and grandchildren, Amanda Walker, Sammy Williams and Foutia Williams.
Ruby had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Tatum for over 35 years. At the time of her death, she attended New Hope Baptist Church in Lovington.
A consummate mother and homemaker, Ruby was an excellent cook and enjoyed having huge Sunday dinners for family and friends.
Open Visitation will be held from 2:00PM-5:00PM, Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 at Stevens Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 11th, 2019 at New Hope Ministry Church. All Services are under the care of Stevens Funeral Home.
